The SMHUB Essential is a Linux-based smart home hub from SMLIGHT, designed for local operation. Its built-in SMHUB-OS runs Zigbee2MQTT, Mosquitto MQTT and Node-RED directly on the device, so it can be used as a standalone hub or as a gateway.
Two independent radio chips, a Texas Instruments CC2652P and a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21, allow two separate Zigbee networks to be run in parallel, or Zigbee and Thread connections simultaneously.
Network communication is handled by dual-band Wi-Fi 6, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and Bluetooth 5.0. The built-in 8 GB eMMC storage can be expanded with a microSD card, and the passively cooled hardware runs quietly for continuous operation.
